Me Made May 29/Simplicity 2473

Here's my new dress, which I wore to church on Saturday night. The pattern is Simplicity 2473.

I forgot to do the spiffy method of lining a sleeveless dress, so I had to hand sew the lining to the armholes. Oh well.

Can I tell you how proud I am of my invisible zipper?? How awesome are those horizontal seams matched up?? :-D

The fabric is from Moda. Yep, I used quilting cotton to make a dress. What of it? I got it on fabric.com, but you can find it lots of places. It seems to be really popular. I used a contrasting Moda fabric to make bias strips (basically piping with no filler) to accent the armholes, neckline, and midriff band area. I think it adds a nice pop. The only alterations I did were to take up the shoulder seems an extra half inch (the bodice was a bit droopy) and also take the side seams above the midriff band a half inch. These aren't usual adjustments for me, and I made my usual size 10.

Great dress! I saw this fabric somewhere else recently and wondered if it was quilting cotton because it's really pretty and subtle (and I love the pastel colors).

I Love this dress! When is your mom going to get back to sewing for herself?

Jenny I love this dress. When I was growning up all our dresses were made of cotton. The scrapes went into quilts. The adult women of my family did not buy fabric especially for quilts. This "quilting cottong fabric" is a new and obnoxious as far as I'm concerned. A beautiful cotton, such as what you used here, makes a beautiful and comfortable dress. Wear it with pride.

I LOVE THIS DRESS!! You really did do a fantastic job getting everything to line up. I also absolutely love the piping. What a nice touch to make the dress even prettier. Such a wonderful job!

I'm curious: Did you line any part of this? I love this fabric and almost bought it just two days ago! But then I thought it might be too sheer for a dress and seeing as how it's already super-hot where I live....well, I didn't get it. Now I really want to because it looks great and I even have this pattern!
