Top-Stitching Preview/Insecurities

What do you think of the hand-stitched edging for my cape?

I love everything about it except I worry it looks a little uneven and definitely "homemade." Then, I step back and think it looks fine.
Opinions? Ideas on how to make my stitches more even? :-)

I created this edge-stitching with two strands of machine top-stitching thread. I think I just wouldn't like it as much if I just machine edge-stitched with the brown.

Total cape envy here! I saw this kind of top stitching on vacation and loved it. I think it's good the way it is; I certainly wouldn't rip it out! (The kind of thing that is noticeable if looked at closely, but no one will ever look that closely I think!). I think I read somewhere to use lowtack tape with the stitches drawn on and sticking it next to the stitching line for orientation.

Oh, I love it. The hand stitching is great. And, what's wrong with hand made? Your work always looks so professional; the "by hand" touches are are lovely.
